7 TikTok Fashion Trends That Will Be Everywhere This Spring

TikTok has its own funny way of making a trend blow up quite literally overnight. This has completely upset the fashion industry’s trend cycles. While each season used to have its own set of trends determined by fashion designers and editors, rapidly changing social media trends have put consumers at the forefront of trendsetting. Since 2020 especially, this has led to trends coming and going at the speed of light and quite frankly people are over it. As a result, I’m noticing that consumers are gravitating toward longer-lasting trends that aren’t going anywhere soon. And for that reason, the trends I sourced below are gold.

I’m currently loving the term “aesthetic” for those of us who are tired of trends because it’s a way to tap into a movement that feels very current without overconsumption. From mermaidcore to the old-money aesthetic, if you walk away trying anything new from my story, I insist you tap into one or the other. I spent hours scrolling through the fashion side of TikTok a week to find the seven trends I approve of.

I had a friend text me the other day asking if the maxi denim skirt was worth buying into. My answer was an immediate yes. I’ve never texted back faster about a fashion question. Lately, almost every time I go into the office I end up throwing on a denim skirt before I head out the door. It’s the easiest way to make your look feel so 2023.

The world better get ready for mermaidcore because it’s most definitely taking over. I mean, with the stamps of approval from big names like Bottega Veneta, Alaia, and Balmain what could stop it now? Part of me wonders how much of a correlation this has with The Little Mermaid reboot that is on the come-up right now.

Okay, remember how I mentioned earlier that a trend can really blow up overnight? I have never seen an item take the world by storm like metallic pants. Every fashion girl just had to have a pair for herself. We saw this staple come through from Helmut Lang first, and then the trickle-down happened really fast. Now everyone has to get a pair.

*Cue Lana Del Rey playing softly in the background* I think it’s safe to say that a lot of women just simply want to look like a “rich mom.” This reigns even more true when you notice how every stylish mom finds a way to go viral. Now it’s easier than ever thanks to TikTokers who show off the many ways to wear simple and elevated luxury buys (that you can often find similar options of for a quarter of the price!).

TikTok loves to bring a forgotten wardrobe staple back. Even though denim jackets are an evergreen item, I was on a hiatus from mine over the past few years. Now that the oversized look is in I am all about them. Plus, who doesn’t want an excuse to wear a Canadian tuxedo?

If you know Who What Wear editors, you know that we’re all obsessed with the quiet luxury look. The shift towards strong elevated basics worn in unexpected ways might be one of my favorite things on the app. It has encouraged everyone to try out the sustainable practice of a capsule wardrobe and I’m obsessed.

Introducing a runway trend that is totally TikTok-approved. Something about the app that I love is that people are committed to trying new things no matter how crazy. The concept of wearing nothing but lingerie and a see-through dress has come up on my for you page a couple of times and I’m officially obsessed.
